Docs Found Negligent in 13-Hour Birth Canal Case

In Cincinnati, Ohio a jury recently awarded a woman over $20 million due to medical negligence during the delivery of her baby in 1997. The baby was stuck in her birth canal for 13 hours, and the doctors tried to push the 9-pound baby through, which caused brain injuries. The baby was eventually delivered via Caesarean section. The now ten-year-old girl has vision problems, limited use of her limbs, and is mildly mentally retarded.

Group Health Associates, on behalf of the doctors who were found negligent, said the doctors "did everything medically possible to facilitate a healthy delivery."
