Man's "Tumor" Turns Out to be Surgical Towel

In Japan, surgeons performed surgery on a man thinking he had an 8cm tumor but it was actually a 25-year-old surgical towel left during an operation he had in 1983 for a minor ulcer.

He went to the hospital complaining of abdominal pain; doctors found what they believed to be a tumor, but it was not.

Leaving surgical gauze and surgical instruments in patients is actually quite common and is a major case for medical malpractice.
