Tainted Tomatoes Found in 9 States
So far, 57 people have been sickened due to a bacteria called Saint Paul, 30 of those were in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas and Utah. Seventeen people have been hospitalized, but there have been no deaths reported thus far. The victims' sickness in Texas and New Mexico has been definitively linked to ingesting raw tomatoes; investigations in the other states are ongoing.
Tomato types not linked to this Salmonella outbreak are cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes, tomatoes sold with the vine still attached, and tomatoes grown at home. The CDC is warning consumers to avoid Roma or red round tomatoes. The elderly, infants and people with weakened immune systems are especially vulnerable to this sickness and should avoid tomatoes altogether.
If you have ingested or otherwise used a defective product and then became ill, you may have a valid legal claim. Please call the Mobile, Alabama defective product attorneys Long & Waite today to schedule your confidential consultation.
