Accutane Taken Off Market After Defective Drug Lawsuit

On June 26, 2009, the drug company Roche Holding AG pulled its acne medicine, Accutane, off the shelves. Juries have recently awarded defective drug victims over $33 million in damages because Accutane gave them bowel disease after they had taken it to treat their acne.

There are approximately 5,000 cases of Accutane injuring users, and many victims are taking the large drug manufacturer to court with their personal injury lawyers to gain the compensation they need. Accutane is also being pulled from the market in France, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Norway, Austria, and Portugal.

Plaintiffs are claiming that Roche Holding AG failed to warn them that Accutane could cause inflammatory bowel disease. Accutane is also linked to other serious drug side effects like birth defects, facial abnormalities and mental retardation.

Since Accutane was introduced in 1982, it has been used by more than 13 million people to treat their acne. In 2007, Roche Holding AG had first-quarter sales of more than $10 billion.

If you have suffered from inflammatory bowel disease or any other serious effect after taking Accutane, and you are in the Mobile, Alabama area, please contact the defective drug attorneys at Long & Waite to schedule your initial consultation.
